Trip #427 Radcliffe Street, Sheraden, Pittsburgh took place on April 5, 2020, and was published on April 17, 2020.
It’s not always easy to understand what it means to be “grounded.” We often think of this in terms of exercise. Are you feeling steady and physically prepared for the activity at hand? Are you feeling balanced and stable down through the soles of your feet so you can move and respond? But being grounded can also apply to our emotional and psychological well-being. Are you feeling secure and safe despite the demands, changes, and stressors life throws at us? And like the soles of the feet, the soul of our inner-being – our spirit – keeps us poised and prepared to greet whatever rain or shine comes our way. Stay connected to the sources that ground you and use its power to keep you strong.
Field Notes: Because it’s early spring, I was still able to see the full length of this long-ish wooden flight on Radcliffe Street in Sheraden. Unfortunately, the bottom portion is ruined so it was feasible to climb up at all.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
