Trip #429 Wyckoff Street, Sheraden, Pittsburgh took place on April 5, 2020, and was published on April 22, 2020.
Because of social distancing, you might be feeling pressured to use this time of isolation to its fullest potential. Write that novel! Landscape the yard! Create amazing art! Cook gourmet dishes! KonMari the house! Watch instructional videos! While those ideas might be fun or beneficial, listen to your inner voice. If you need to rest, take rest. If you want to call someone and talk with them, then do it. Don’t worry about how much time it takes or if it’s “productive” or not. Take each day as it comes and respect how you feel. There are many things we have no control over, but you do have control over the level of kindness you show yourself.
Field Notes: The Wyckoff Street stairs are nnother flight that’s a bit “out in the middle of nowhere”. There are only a few houses down at the bottom but I’m thinking there were many more 50-60 years ago.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
