Trip #431 Ashlyn Street, Sheraden, Pittsburgh took place on April 12, 2020, and was published on April 27, 2020.
Sometimes, from a distance, the path you’re on can appear so clear and navigable. But if you’ve ever heard the words, “All you have to do is…” then you know what often happens next. It’s a rare instance when “all you have to do is…” solves the problem or brings you to your desired destination. More often than not, there are several other steps, diversions, road-blocks, and back-tracks that need to be traversed first, during the middle, or right before you reach the finish line. Perhaps all of those prerequisites, pit-stops, and postponements were part of that clear and navigable path all along. All we had to do is work our way through them one by one.
Field Notes: This big flight on Ashlyn Street in Sheraden is closed at the top and inaccessible once you get halfway up due to fallen trees and crumbled concrete. 🙁
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
