Trip #452 Small Way, Crafton Heights, Pittsburgh took place on May 31, 2020, and was published on June 19, 2020.
It might seem hard to believe right now, but a peaceful world is possible. In our hearts, we know what it should look like, and we understand how it can be achieved. But talking about theory isn’t enough to make it happen. We have to practice peace with every step every day. We need to walk alongside those who carry messages of peace and pay no mind to those who do not. When we choose to follow the paths to peace, we become part of a broader, collective movement. A movement that is defined by a willingness to lace up our shoes and contribute as individuals.
Field Notes: Another interesting flight of city steps in a very “suburban” section of Crafton Heights. Today, you wouldn’t expect to find one in this kind of neighborhood (single-family houses, wide lawns…) but in 1949 traveling by foot to school or the bus was probably much more common.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
