Trip #456 Noblestown Road to Guyland Street, Westwood, Pittsburgh took place on June 7, 2020, and was published on June 26, 2020.
When we’re taught how to do something a certain way, and the process feels reasonably comfortable, we incorporate it into our routine operating system. In time, we develop a nearly thoughtless quality about the action, skill, or sequence. We have dozens, maybe even hundreds of activities we perform every day on auto-pilot. Brushing our teeth, writing a note, traveling to our favorite grocery store, paying bills, or cooking our favorite recipe (to name just a few). Just because you think a process is better, quicker, or more socially accepted than another doesn’t mean you can’t explore different ways to do the same thing. Look at the charges that comprise your bills, brush your teeth, or try writing, with your non-dominant hand, travel through a different neighborhood to get groceries, or explore new methods or unusual ingredients to make your favorite dishes. Life is too short to spend our time disengaged and checked-out. It’s time we re-school ourselves so we can recapture the attentiveness and curiosity of the beginner’s mind.
Field Notes: Another flight that looks to be recently re-done. Leads up a long hill to a school. Pretty cool looking pine tree at the top.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
