Trip #459 Oakwood Road to Balver Street, Oakwood, Pittsburgh took place on June 28, 2020, and was published on July 6, 2020.
All too often, we don’t correctly account for the amount of stress in our lives. And more often than not, we simply learn to incorporate physical, environmental, and psychological stress into our regular routines. We “normalize” and accept what these stressors do to us: inability to concentrate, headaches, stomach pains, insomnia, cravings for stimulants and depressives, short tempers, snap decisions. And no two people are the same. What causes stress and how we respond to it are unique and individual. But for many of us, stressful situations become a cage we enclosed ourselves in, sometimes knowingly, others unwittingly, that we acclimate to and accept. Until the day comes when we’re ready and able to unlock the door and step outside.
Field Notes: This is a very interesting flight that starts off as a long catwalk-style raised sidewalk. Very quiet and pretty area!

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
