Trip #489 Candace Street, Beechview, Pittsburgh took place on August 19, 2020, and was published on September 16, 2020.
In our production-oriented culture, there’s not much time allowed for thinking. So much of our collective and individual value is determined by “doing,” even if we don’t fully understand (or agree with) our actions. In this constant state of busyness, when is there time to reflect, consider, analyze, envision, and listen? There isn’t, and it’s a serious problem all of us need to work on rectifying: because decisions made without much thought are ones we frequently regret. The first step is to slow down and THINK about the whats and whys, the whens and wheres, the whos and hows that influence and impact our activities. Then, we need to allow and trust ourselves to practice thoughtful decision-making. The more we do this, the better we’ll become at selecting wise choices for ourselves and our communities.
Field Notes: The trees surrounding this flight at the end of Candace Street were full of birds and the sounds were off the charts! Seriously, I have never heard such a concentrated amount of “bird speak” in one location – it was incredible. I wonder what it was all about???

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
