Trip #498 Seward Street to Republic Street, Duquesne Heights, Pittsburgh took place on September 13, 2020, and was published on October 5, 2020.
When something good happens, we feel positive, upbeat, and excited. But when we step in a flaming pile of POO? Well, we often head in a very different direction! Anger, despair, resentment, and jealousy are just a few of the painful emotions we feel when bad news is dumped on our path. So we rage and complain, cry, and feel victimized, but then we must start the process of “wiping off our shoes” because if we don’t, we will trudge the sludge of toxicity all over everything and everyone in our lives. Flaming piles of poo are no fun, and the cleanup is unpleasant, but the alternative is far worse. And just think, when you’re done, it’ll feel like something good has happened!
Field Notes: This street has city steps on both sides, but the one shown is in better shape and the railings have been recently painted. Regardless of which side, the view is pretty!

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
