Trip #503 Merrimac Street to Omaha Street, Mount Washington, Pittsburgh took place on October 1, 2020, and was published on October 19, 2020.
Your batshit crazy neighbor isn’t going to win the lottery and move away. A cavity in your tooth won’t heal miraculously. That expensive splurge will show up when the credit card bill arrives. We know problems rarely “disappear,” but when we’re struggling with a challenging situation, the LAST thing we want to hear is, “Don’t look at it as a problem. See it as an opportunity!” So go ahead and groan, sigh, grumble and make another desperate plea to jump into an alternate universe. And when you’re done, go spend an hour with your dentist, direct a lovingkindness meditation to all the crazies in your life, and scout around the basement for some gems you can hustle on Marketplace. Because whether you call them problems or opportunities, the fact remains that ignoring them won’t make them go away.
Field Notes: A short flight that connects the main road to the little neighborhood above it. There’s a cool old house and a big old pine tree at the top – very striking!

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
