Southern Avenue to Boggs Avenue Mount Washington Trip 519

November 25, 2020Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Mount Washington

Trip #519 Southern Avenue to Boggs Avenue, Mount Washington, Pittsburgh took place on November 8, 2020, and was published on November 25, 2020.

Our body collects everything we experience. We’re like a living, breathing container, storing all that we hear, see, taste, touch, and smell. Much of this vast collection is used to our advantage, and from all the various bits and pieces, we develop skills, knowledge, and abilities. But some of what we squirrel away slows us down, makes us hesitant, fearful, or insecure and puts us at a disadvantage. If there’s something in your closet, basement, or attic that negatively influences how you see yourself or others, a thorough house cleaning may be in order. Our collections often feel etched in stone and permanent, but they aren’t; keep the valuable treasures, recycle or re-sell what no longer fits, and put the rest right where it belongs – in garbage bags and dumpsters.

Field Notes: I love finding sidewalk steps that have something “interesting” happening nearby. In this case, it’s a brick red dumpster hanging out at the top of the street. I’ve seen plenty of dumpsters and this one was very nice looking! 🙂

Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
