Trip #529 Mann Street, Mount Washington, Pittsburgh took place on November 26, 2020, and was published on December 21, 2020.
The processes you use will affect your end results. This holds true for both individual and collective projects of all shapes and sizes, from learning new skills to getting in shape to revitalizing neighborhoods. If our attentions are scattered, our efforts slip-shod, or we rely on unsound judgment, we can’t rightfully expect very good outcomes. Unfortunately, humans are often smitten by delusions of grandeur and all the trimmings accompanying it. Because we can’t wait to reach that amazingly tantalizing destination, we’re tempted to seek out the easiest and quickest means possible to achieve our goal. But there’s the rub – if our processes are weak, they’ll likely fail. And when grand visions fail, they often leave behind a pile of rubble, thus ensuring the cycle will begin again.
Field Notes: This old sidewalk flight of city steps that once connected to visit #528 now runs along an empty lot that a developer is trying to build several houses on. Not sure how well that’s going to work out. For now, the lot is collecting trash. 🙁

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
