Trip #534 Harwood Way, Mount Washington, Pittsburgh took place on November 30, 2020, and was published on January 8, 2021.
I still believe in the lessons I learned as a Girl Scout. While I was a miserable failure with tying knots and starting fires, I proudly wore the uniform that displayed my troop number and badges. A community grange hall built in 1895 was our gathering place, and the sounds of the old plank floor provided a quiet solemnity to the flag ceremony that marked the start and end of our meetings.
On my honor, I will try
to do my best
to be honest
to be fair
to help where I am needed
to be cheerful
to be friendly and considerate
to be a sister to every Girl Scout
to respect authority
to use resources wisely
to protect and improve the world around me, and
to show respect for myself and others through my words and actions.
And after all these years, I still believe.
Trust in your calling, make sure your calling’s true
Think of others, the others think of you.
I believe.
Field Notes: These city steps lead from the neighborhood down to the busway. They’re pretty nice! I usually get upset when the Polaroid does that lousy “stripe” but this time it looks great! Really enhances the sky.
Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
