Trip #536 Eureka Street, Mount Washington, Pittsburgh took place on November 29, 2020, and was published on January 11, 2021.
Undertaking routine self-improvement is part of being a mature adult. We reflect on what is working well, what’s acceptable, and what we need to put a bit more effort into. Maybe we want to exercise more, develop healthier habits, learn new skills, or deepen a personal or spiritual connection. Committing to better yourself is not a selfish act. If anything, it’s the opposite: an improved “you” is of greater benefit to your community, friends, and family. As we move through these January days, let’s consider what we want for ourselves in this new year. Remember that the care we show ourselves reflects and radiates outward and touches everyone around us.
Field Notes: This is the continuation of the little flight from visit #535. To cross over to Estrella Avenue, you need to take the stairs (at least from Eureka Street) as the road does not go through at this point.
Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
