Trip #543 Nina Way to Climax Street, Beltzhoover, Pittsburgh took place on December 12, 2020, and was published on January 29, 2021.
Our lives are built through a series of chain reactions, with every moment affecting the next. It’s like a very complicated version of the famous “Make Your Own Adventure” books, except the story being created is YOUR life. Imagine, if you will, a chapter called “A social media post.” In this part of the adventure, you read a post or comment on a social media platform that thoroughly irritates you. The adventure now begins! Do you:
- Immediately post a scathing rebuttal because you can’t believe how idiotic people are.
- Try to forget about it by visiting your favorite e-commerce site! You deserve a treat!
- Decide you’re done wasting time on the internet. You need to get some work done so you can pat yourself on the back for adulting.
After making a choice, you then discover a myriad of further options you could follow! Do you end up battling bots, trolls, and misanthropes? Perhaps you find alligator cowboy boots that just went on sale? Maybe you brush your hair and put on a nice sweater for your upcoming Zoom meeting? The possibilities are limitless! When you approach each day as a Make Your Own Adventure day, they become a little more memorable and a lot more interesting.
Field Notes: Another flight of long-forgotten sidewalk stairs in Beltzhoover. Like many neighborhoods around Pittsburgh, one street can be looking good and the next one over not so much. I’m surprised the part of the neighborhood closest to the train isn’t more developed – it would be such an easy way for people to get to work downtown.
Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
