Trip #550 Bernd Street, Beltzhoover, Pittsburgh took place on December 30, 2020, and was published on February 15, 2021.
Every day, we get 24 hours. Some of those hours flash by in an instant, while others drag and drag, and from our first moment to our last, we rarely have absolute power over them. External forces and the needs of others will dictate when we rise, sleep, and how entire blocks of time are spent. But regardless of the push and pull, every day we travel around the clockface caring for others, fulfilling requests, answering questions, serving and being served. Despite our perceived and actual differences, the harried state and the useless wait are experiences we share. The hours in a day provide us a common bond. Throughout it all, our hours remain steady.
Field Notes: This flight of city steps is right up the street from #549 and in the eastern section of Beltzhoover close to Knoxville. It’s close to McKinley Park (which makes the empty houses all the sadder – it could be a nice place for people to live).

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
