Freeland Street Allentown Trip 555

March 1, 2021Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Allentown

Trip #555 Freeland Street Allentown, Pittsburgh took place on February 25, 2021, and was published on March 1, 2021.

We grow so accustomed to doing things a certain way that we often fail to notice when our behaviors or processes are no longer working well. That’s because there’s a certain comfort in routine, even if it gets a bit dull and predictable. Coming up with ideas to combat inefficiencies is hard work, and it becomes even more challenging AFTER you’ve had the “Ah-ha!” moment. Because to truly innovate, you need to let go of those comfortable patterns and forge into an area that may cause anxiety, anger, and fear. And it’s because of those emotions that we frequently stop innovation and return to the same old methods and materials that keep us stuck. Somewhat ironically, we forget that the very things we embrace as known and acceptable were themselves at one time fresh, new, and innovative.

Field Notes: This small, snow-covered set of sidewalk sets is right across the street from visit #554. Except for the fact that the house on the corner of Breeze Way has all sorts of yard art and doo-dads outside. Very entertaining!

Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
