Trip #556 Loyal Way, Allentown, Pittsburgh took place on February 24, 2021, and was published on March 3, 2021.
When do you feel most alive? As you think about this, consider how your answer has shifted in the last year. Are there activities and habits you’ve created during COVID that a pre-pandemic you would be surprised by? Soon, the time will come when social and business restrictions ease, and we’ll begin to wade back into all that was abandoned in March of 2020. And with that, decisions will be made. Dive headfirst into all that has been denied or let our newfound interests, hobbies, and passions help us discern who we want to be in 2021 (and beyond)? If there’s anything this year of sadness and loss has taught us, it’s how resilient and adaptable we can be. And how even in the worst of times, we can still find ways to feel alive and satisfied.
Field Notes: This street is super steep! Even though Bob Regan’s book dates this flight at 1970, my guess is that a wooden flight was first here. In this case, traveling on the stairs is the easier and safer option.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
