Loyal Way Allentown Trip 558

March 8, 2021Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Allentown

Trip #558 Loyal Way, Allentown, Pittsburgh took place on February 24, 2021, and was published on March 8, 2021.

When we paint, draw, take a photo, or tell a story, we have to consider perspective. Perspective allows us to highlight certain features while minimizing or eliminating others and creates a specific experience. A point of view can be apparent, or it can be subtle, like an underground trickle of water that runs undetected. Being aware of how and why we view the world around us as we do is necessary for forging authentic relationships with others and our communities. But so is a willingness to shift perspectives and look at life through a different lens. It’s relatively easy to walk a single mile in someone else’s shoes – and gladly return to your comfortable pair when the work is done. Experiencing the world through another’s eyes, another’s heart and soul, is a very different and much harder undertaking.

Field Notes: This flight is on the other end of Loyal Way, right at the corner of Arlington Avenue. While the stairs seem to have some more recent cement, no railings and lots of litter. The tree at the top is quite striking though!

Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
