Trip #568 Syrian Street, Arlington, Pittsburgh took place on March 14, 2021, and was published on March 29, 2021.
The English language has a few well-known idioms about sleeves. The first that comes to mind is “to wear your heart on your sleeve,” and the second is “Let’s roll up our sleeves.” The former indicates a compassionate, romantic, or sentimental person whose emotions are clearly apparent. The latter is associated with being industrious and preparing for hard or serious work. In my view, these two sleeves naturally belong on the same shirt, but all too often, we end up with one or the other (unless we’re wearing a tank top, in which case we get neither). So why not aim for a bit more balance between what’s in your heart and what you’re working on? Sounds like an ideal way to have “an ace up your sleeve.” 😉
Field Notes: This short sidewalk flight is right up the block from Visit #561. It’s pretty overgrown and hasn’t been cleared out in a long time. People walking up from Arlington Ave likely just walk in the street as it’s very quiet.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
