Trip #570 Moore Avenue, Knoxville, Pittsburgh took place on March 24, 2021, and was published on April 7, 2021.
Why is it such a challenge to accept ourselves as we are? We tend to push aside our positive qualities while obsessing over things we don’t like or have little control over. It’s like we’re on a one-way street searching for perfection while driving past all that is right and good. We might catch glimpses of these gifts in the rear-view mirror, but acknowledging them means taking extra time to loop back around the block, so it’s easier to just keep going. Just keep barreling down that long narrow street in search of whatever we’re hoping will be at the end. But the problem is that the thing we’re looking for isn’t going to be at the end. In the end, an intersection and a stoplight are what will be waiting for us.
Field Notes: This flight of sidewalk stairs are right down the street from visit 569. They’re a little tricky to travel on due to the sunken nature of the platforms but they are slightly raised above the street so they are necessary for pedestrians (otherwise they’d be walking in the road).

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
