Trip #573 Georgia Avenue, Knoxville, Pittsburgh took place on April 7, 2021, and was published on April 14, 2021.
Thomas Aquinas wrote that “beauty arrests motion,” and it always amazes me when and where that happens. Sometimes, there is no apparent reason why I stop dead in my tracks and stare in awe. Most times, it will not be evident to others what caused my pause or why I hope a particular view stays alive in my memory. The expression “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” is frequently spoken and embraced by the masses but tends to cause a great deal of hand-wringing in those who care deeply about aesthetics. I appreciate both and refuse to take sides. It’s true that beauty, seen through my eyes, has the power to enthrall, and perhaps it’s the unseen elements, intentionally orchestrated, that make it worth remembering.
Field Notes: This walkway is surrounded by a lot of trash and blight but there was something I found so lovely about it as I was walking through. One of those moments, I guess.
