Trip #576 Boggston Avenue, Beltzhoover, Pittsburgh took place on April 16, 2021, and was published on April 21, 2021.
Throughout history, people have immigrated to new lands with the hope of building a better future. Our modes of transport may be different, the work we do and the homes we create may be different, but our hearts and souls, hopes, dreams, and desires transcend generations and geography. The human race has created a legacy of movement that is as old as the discovery of fire and as essential as making tools. We’ve been on the move for far longer than we’ve stayed still.
Field Notes: I have to think that the city steps Bob Regan mapped 20 years ago are not the city steps that are here today. This light rail stop looks too modern. Still, stairs are in the same place even if the transport is a bit different. The yellow bin that’s in the center of the Polaroid is called an “SOS Bin” – not sure what that means but I guess it’s a good thing to have near the train stop!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
