Trip #577 Amanda Avenue, Knoxville, Pittsburgh took place on April 16, 2021, and was published on April 23, 2021.
There are times when discerning the truth feels like navigating a five-way intersection without stoplights and turn signals. When our minds twist, turn, parse and dissect every word, every action, and every nuance, the truths we call self-evident gradually melt away. If we were presented with the whole truth and nothing but the truth, would we even believe it?
Field Notes: These stairs appear to have survived a sidewalk re-furbishing. It’s a little funky looking – doesn’t quite match up! It’s a busy intersection so it’s doubtful anyone notices anymore. But down the block, some of the old bits remain… like this doorway.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
