Trip #587 Copperfield Avenue, Carrick, Pittsburgh took place on May 14, 2021, and was published on May 19, 2021.
We never have to look very far to find things that aren’t working as we’d like them to. Whether it’s the speed of snowplows or global warning, it’s easy to blame others for the sorry state of affairs. And while righteous indignation makes us feel slightly better for the moment, it does nothing to rectify the problem. So instead of focusing on anger, we need to use our hands and feet (to keep moving, keep working), our heart (to follow a compassionate path), and our head (to plan and strategize) to bring about the necessary improvements. Think of this three-pronged approach as the holy trinity for creating a future where past hopes become future realities.
Field Notes: When I visited, the entire top half of the road was closed (to vehicles) due to what appeared to be water/sewer repair. The noise of cars was replaced by the noise of heavy equipment! 😉 Some of the railings appeared to have been hit, so the MyBurgh 311 app comes in handy for on-the-scene reports!
Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
