Trip #596 Rehman Street, Carrick, Pittsburgh took place on May 28, 2021, and was published on June 11, 2021.
Why is it that humans often have a hard time cooperating? We fight against nature. We fight against one another. And we’re usually our own worst enemy. Even within groups of like-minded individuals (ironically called co-operatives), it’s only a matter of time before egos and emotions flare, disagreements snowball, and factions splinter off. I long for a world where people can sit down, respectfully discuss concerns, reach agreements involving both give and take, and part as friends and allies. It seems that as our survival as a species gets easier, our ability to co-exist with one another becomes more difficult.
Field Notes: This sidewalk flight on a steep street is a funky mixture of materials! Grass, concrete, red brick, and a low stone wall. Not sure how often people walk on it but it’s well cared for.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
