Mosgrove Street Carrick Trip 602

June 25, 2021Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Carrick

Trip #602 Mosgrove Street, Carrick, Pittsburgh took place on June 18, 2021, and was published on June 25, 2021.

As a concept, justice is deceptively complex, and it becomes even more tangled and messy when applied. It’s a rare person who doesn’t harbor even the slightest desire to seek retribution for past injuries or inflict suffering on those who have done wrong. So how can “justice be served” when judgment becomes twisted and overtaken by thoughts of revenge, control, and punishment? Taking an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth becomes a never-ending spiral, and the weedy growth of injustices becomes thicker and denser, ultimately consuming the land and everything it initially held. How I wish there were pruning shears large and strong enough to cut it all back so all people could move with ease.

Field Notes: This flight leads down toward the T stop but I guess it’s not in use as the middle section is (now) completely overgrown and impassable. There are other streets and another flight of stairs that lead to the transit line so I guess it’s not a terrible inconvenience (if at all). Noticed an interesting-looking manhole cover at the top!

Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
