Trip #603 Hawridge Way, Carrick, Pittsburgh took place on June 20, 2021, and was published on June 28, 2021.
It says a great deal about a person’s character when they can stand up tall and acknowledge a desire to change their views. Having strong convictions can be a positive trait; too often, people shy away from forming their own opinions because they don’t want to alienate friends or family or aren’t sure who to believe (so they choose to believe no one). I imagine it must be somewhat painful, disruptive, and embarrassing to realize that a strongly held belief is not factually or logically correct, harmful instead of helpful, or nothing more than magical thinking. For good or bad, our thoughts and actions create our identities and making a change can’t be easy – which may explain why some refuse to do so.
Field Notes: This is another flight that heads down to the T stop that doesn’t seem to get much foot traffic. However, there’s a gorgeous old pine tree at the bottom and lots of purple thistles along the way.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
