Trip #604 Glade Street, Carrick, Pittsburgh took place on June 20, 2021, and was published on June 28, 2021.
We all know how difficult it can be to get along with people who have very different views, behaviors, or attitudes from our own. Even when trying to be understanding and compassionate, there will be times when an interaction results in soaring blood pressure, heightened anxiety, or a foul mood. But traveling down the road of negativity is like wrapping your body in flypaper – it traps anything and everything it touches. So instead of steaming, stewing, fuming, and ruminating over people who push your buttons or make you wonder just how the fuck they got so crazy, throw the brakes on the icky sticky thoughts and take a few steps back. Then find a way to laugh, love, and look for a light that points to the high road.
Field Notes: This raised flight of sidewalk steps is a very nice way to travel this lower section of Glade Street (which is rather steep). There was honeysuckle blooming at the top of the flight and the lower portion had many of these plants (unknown to me) blooming.
Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
