Trip #628 Rutherford Avenue, Beechview, Pittsburgh took place on August 15, 2021, and was published on August 27, 2021.
It’s much easier to grow and thrive when our lives have a balance between giving and receiving care and love. All of us can offer these qualities and positively influence the world, but we also need to accept both when extended to us. Some days, the climb is challenging, so take a seat and relax for a moment when you need replenishment. There’s no shame or weakness in receiving a generous gift from others. Take the time to enjoy your surroundings and bask in the abundance of the world around you. With every gift you accept, you’re allowing someone else to give, and that keeps the circle moving around.
Field Notes: This final section of Rutherford curves its way up to Broadway. The drop-off from the main street into the neighborhood is pretty significant, so the stairs are essential. It’s full-blown mid-August, so hot temperatures and plenty of rain have made the landscape exceptionally green!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
