Trip #642 Belle Isle Avenue, Brookline, Pittsburgh took place on September 18, 2021, and was published on October 1, 2021.
Most of us strive to create some semblance of order in our lives. We might get out of bed at a particular time every day, have certain rituals we perform with unflagging regularity, or travel a specific route to work, school, or the grocery store (even if GPS suggests a faster alternative). We do these things because the structure they provide feels good, and they help us stay productive and engaged. But it’s important to remember that a bit of disruption to the routine doesn’t have to be negative. Think about how you feel when you’re on vacation or taking a day off. That change is often refreshing and invigorating! So the next time you’re given a chance to break out of a well-honed routine, seize it and try something a little different. Think of it as giving yourself a mini-vacation. 😉
Field Notes: This raised flight is on the opposite side of the street from visit #641 and it doesn’t appear to get much foot traffic (saw two people opting to walk in the street instead of navigating through the overgrown bits). With a little bit of cleaning up, it would look much more welcoming! The trees that line the flight have some interesting bark patterns.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
