Trip #643 Belle Isle Avenue, Brookline, Pittsburgh took place on September 26, 2021, and was published on October 4, 2021.
We humans love to revisit the past and speculate about the future. But what percentage of our thoughts are positive and affirming, and what percentage are negative and destructive? These days, with ever-increasing frequency and amplitude, it feels as if our eyes and ears are riveted on the doom-sayers and nay-sayers, hate-mongers and misanthropes. When we allow ourselves to be bombarded by these messages, it injures our spirit, poisons our thoughts, and tramples our heart, impacting how we behave in the present moment AND how we engage with the world when tomorrow, next week, or next month finally arrives. But we are not chained to our thoughts and the thoughts of others. We can choose how we want to experience today and tomorrow. We can choose the positive and affirmative and create more joy and less pain for everyone.
Field Notes: This is the last stretch of the Belle Isle city steps leading up from West Liberty. This is the prettiest of the three sections and goes past some old walkways and chain-link fences.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
