Trip #658 Coast Avenue, Beechview, Pittsburgh took place on October 28, 2021, and was published on November 8, 2021.
We all have a favorite resting spot in our home: a comfy chair, couch, or bed with pillows and blankets, so we can watch TV, listen to music, or read a book in maximum comfort. But Mother Nature also provides us with many places to rest and let the worries of the day melt away. In this home, we can watch the shape-shifting clouds, listen to the rustling of the leaves, and try to interpret the activities of birds and squirrels. And while it’s true that relaxing in nature won’t magically make responsibilities, problems, and concerns disappear, spending time in this very special place can calm the mind’s belligerent voices and make it a bit easier to continue forward in the direction of your choosing.
Field Notes: This flight runs parallel to #657 (Fallowfield train stop) a little bit further down Dagmar Ave. It was such a gorgeous fall day when I visited – the perfect mix of warm sun and crisp breezes. This flight is in great shape and I was pleased to discover sections of the original concrete aggregate – they don’t repair stairs like this anymore!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
