Trip #661 Colebrook Avenue to Ringwalt Avenue, Beechview, Pittsburgh took place on November 7, 2021, and was published on November 15, 2021.
Our internal emotions can quickly shift and slide due to external circumstances: what’s happening in the news, the amount of traffic we encounter traveling, weather conditions, or how we look in a photograph taken by someone else. Before long, we can start to feel like a ship’s captain held captive to the whims and mercies of winds and currents. But, like a captain, we also have navigation tools and skills at our disposal. Identifying the North Star gives us direction, and our trusted compass and rudder help us navigate any circumstance – positive, negative, or ambiguous. And let us not forget the oars, sails, and motors that provide the extra power to travel through the changeable feelings and events we encounter every day. The swirling seas of life will always surround us, but they needn’t knock us overboard.
Field Notes: The Spectra is REALLY killing me these days. At best I’m getting maybe two usable prints out of a pack. I broke down and bought some i-Type film to go with the Polaroid OneStep 2 i-Type Instant Camera I bought as a backup back in 2018 when Spectra film had its first phase of disappearing from the market. Some of those prints are going to start appearing in the weeks ahead but I decide to embrace all the wabi-sabi decay and disintegration in this one. At least I can always count on the digital photos with the iPhone!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
