Trip #676 Crimson Avenue, Beechview, Pittsburgh took place on November 17, 2021, and was published on December 22, 2021.
Another year is coming to a close. Late December is often when we pause and reflect on all that has happened over the past months and all we would like to see happen in the days ahead. What will those 365 squares on the 2022 calendar hold for us personally, as a city, a country, and for this world of nearly 8 billion? Our approach to these concerns will be reflected back to us in all we see, be it grey skies and brokenness, beautiful shapes and colors, or any mix-n-match combination we desire. We choose the reality and the illusion. May the holi-days and final ways of 2021 find you with clear eyes and an open heart. See yinz in January. Cheers!
Field Notes: This flight is at the end of a long Belgian block street that, in days gone by, lead to a transit stop. Today, it’s a dead-end that seems to collect water. As problematic as that may be, it can create some very cool reflections.
Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
