Trip #694 Pius Street to Gregory Street, South Side Slopes, Pittsburgh took place on February 9, 2022, and was published on February 18, 2022.
There are some things we’ll never feel enthusiasm for doing, and at times, we can even drag our feet starting activities we know we enjoy. But if we delay until “the right moment” appears, we may never embark on them. In these cases, being honest about our decisions is critical. Own the procrastination and excuses and then muster up some motivation and quickly take the plunge. And while getting started can feel like walking on an icy sidewalk, don’t stop. Honor and respect any unpleasant uncertainty and discomfort you may feel with moving in an unfamiliar way, but keep taking tiny steps – and trust that it won’t be long before a clear spot appears.
Field Notes: Yikes! This flight of city steps was an icy mess! Still, the narrow passageway looks so mysterious and intriguing. A very old and sturdy cut stone retaining wall runs along the side and along the street.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
