Trip #696 Rutherford Avenue, Beechview, Pittsburgh took place on February 11, 2022, and was published on February 23, 2022.
It’s no surprise that weather conditions have the power to affect our mood. This highly-subjective recipe is delicately nuanced and contingent on many factors: temperature, humidity, sun v. clouds, wind… and, in Western Pennsylvania, air quality. It’s no surprise that one person’s perfectly glorious day is another’s wasteland of doom and gloom. Whatever the current conditions are, some people will be euphoric while others left without an ounce of delight. Living in a four-season climate means that every day brings a new beginning, and for those of us eagerly awaiting spring, our glory days (and sun-lit evenings) are right around the corner. When a cold-weather comrade starts dreading the inevitable sweaty sadness to come, kindly commiserate and offer them an ice-cold beverage. Cheers!
Field Notes: Back to the rolling hills of Beechview! This corner sidewalk flight leads up to the larger, hillside flights of Rutherford Avenue (see trips #627 and #628). In short, the entire block is pretty much all stairs! 🙂 Today’s visit still had ice and snow, but melting is starting to happen…
Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
