Trip #714 Frank Street, Greenfield, Pittsburgh took place on March 31, 2022, and was published on April 6, 2022.
Second only to grief, jealousy may be one of the most painful emotions we can suffer. Perhaps this is because jealousy blinds us, erasing everything in our view except for what we want so desperately, the “thing” that never seems to satisfy our hunger. The fixation with what we do not have or what we’re terrified of losing can obliterate all the beauty in our lives. And as our nightmares of discontent and worry deepen, we discover ourselves trapped in an unfortunate paradox: more is less.
Field Notes: This slowly deteriorating corner flight has a lovely old stone retaining wall that protects it from vehicles traveling on Frank Street. Melbourne Street (the intersection where this flight is located) has a “slow streets” designation so maybe a bit more walking and biking occurs here despite appearances to the contrary!
Love city steps? Get yourself the latest issue of Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps! Each copy is unique and features 10 randomly selected “trading cards” of Pittsburgh’s 739 public stairways. Visit the Mis.Steps online store to see all issues and place your order.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
