Trip #720 Complete Street Marshall-Shadeland, Pittsburgh took place on April 9, 2022, and was published on April 25, 2022.
When we’re involved in an angry dispute, reconciliation can seem impossible. There are so many emotions close to the surface: anger, sadness, frustration, and betrayal that it’s difficult to see beyond them. When we’re in this situation, we may believe that we’re the one owed an apology, that seeking forgiveness must be initiated by the other side. But when we hold on to these beliefs, we walk the Earth with anger stuffed into our pockets, sprinkling poisonous crumbs wherever we go. Releasing a hurt won’t alter the past, but it does change the future, and empty pockets make the journey that much lighter.
Field Notes: Complete Street ends at Geyer Avenue with this flight of wooden stairs. Geyer is quasi-wilderness these days and with that comes a fair amount of trash and illegal dumping (which is sad to see). I was so happy that the Spectra co-operated for this visit! There is a more realistic iType print but the Spectra really captures the spirit of the place.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
