Trip #722 Zara Street to Beltzhoover Avenue, Knoxville, Pittsburgh took place on April 10, 2022, and was published on April 29, 2022.
We grow in unexpected ways whenever we step beyond our comfort zone, and often, those growth opportunities come at the request of another. Perhaps we’ve been asked to shoulder a heavier load or responsibility, and we doubt our strength. Maybe our skills or knowledge have been sought out, and we’re afraid that recognition will expose us as fraudulent or incapable. As we struggle with existing and moving through these uncomfortable zones, it’s worth remembering that it’s in this space where we discover our potential, our limitations, and where we feel most alive. So don’t back away, step down, or try to avoid it; this is where you hold on, move ahead, and feel alive.
Field Notes: This flight is NOT 12 steps but I wonder if it was replaced in the years between Bob Regan mapping it and today. The flight doesn’t look new but it could easily be 10+ years old. The retaining wall looks much older though! Like this little detail I found where it all comes together.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
