Trip #726 Moyer Street, Sheraden, Pittsburgh, took place on April 15, 2022, and was published on May 9, 2022.
Have you ever noticed how some of the sweetest berries or most fragrant flowers grow on stems containing thorns? You can enjoy them but only with caution and in moderation. A thorny problem poses a certain degree of hardship and often requires careful maneuvering to reach a solution. But the gifts you receive once you’ve overcome the barriers are usually worth every bit of effort and pain.
Field Notes: This part wood part asphalt sidewalk flight leads from the end of Moyer Street to a few houses that are a bit further down the hillside (one had a walkway made of these WaterProof bricks). Below is the Poale Zedeck Cemetery which serves Congregation Poale Zedeck (PZ), a Modern Orthodox synagogue in Squirrel Hill. According to the PZ website, the cemetery is over 120 years old. It’s a very peaceful view!

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
