Trip #95 Farmhouse Road to Bunkerhill Street, Highland Park, Pittsburgh took place on January 21, 2018, and was published on February 14, 2018.
This time of year the city can look so careworn and bedraggled. Slush and dirty snow and puddles of semi-frozen water surround all of us. Even the fashionable streets look tired, like pretty faces with dark circles under the eyes, dry skin and chapped lips. But then, in a moment, everything changes and I’m traveling down a different path. Birds are chirping, a tawny chipmunk darts ahead of me, and the contrast between the white and green and grey (with a dash of red) re-awakens my eyes. Suddenly, I feel lively. I feel like I just might survive these final weeks of winter!
Field Notes: Such a lovely little spot right along the park! One path goes off to the all-brick street and the other to the roadway. So pretty!
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
