Sheraden Skate Park, Sheraden: 3230 Tuxedo Street
Skates, skis, and boards have never been part of my active life: I generally prefer slow movements with minimal risk of falling. But my tortoise-like inclinations have never stopped me from curiously admiring those who want to glide and slice through the air, whose desire for frictionless travel propels them to grab the best of what gravity offers and openly defy the rest. These part-bird, part-fish humans willingly suffer through crashes, road rash, broken bones, and chipped teeth, gradually transforming their anatomical limitations until the moment comes when they break free, if only for a heartbeat or two, of all earthly limitations.
I will be content with witnessing the joy and exhilaration those moments bring to others.
Note: As an FYI, this park is right around the corner from the Thayer Street city steps. After years in inoperable condition, they have recently been restored!
