West End Overlook Park, Elliott: Marlow Street
The West End Overlook Park may have one of the best views in Pittsburgh. It offers that view in a relatively quiet, natural setting (sorry, Grandview Avenue, you certainly have some “grand” views, but speeding vehicles and large crowds often detract from the experience).
Being here is a reminder that it’s not just what you offer but also HOW you offer it. Our actions matter, but it doesn’t stop there. How we determine right action and communicate with one another either strengthens or weakens the bridges that connect us.
Bridges are an integral part of our lives, whether we like them or not, whether we use them daily or rarely. And that realization is one we only fully comprehend once they’ve been broken and removed from use. The expansive panorama the West End Overlook offers will not solve the suffering surrounding us, but its tranquil beauty offers a respite and perhaps some inspiration to fortify us for the journey ahead.
