Trip #178 Tullymet Street, Hazelwood, Pittsburgh took place on August 11, 2018, and was published on August 27, 2018.
I’m angry. I’m angry with so many things happening in the world right now that no sooner am I able to make peace with one than another horrible manifestation appears and I’m ramped up again. Around other people, I try to be positive-minded, but when I’m alone with my wandering thoughts the never-ending stream of injustices and abuses barge into my consciousness and I feel my enraged warrior rise up. Waves of fury thrash around inside of me until I’m exhausted and spent – like a child at the end of a tantrum, weakly beating their hands against the floor. But it’s at that moment when every drop of fury has melted into grief, that stillness comes. My thoughts still, my body stills, and the warrior holds on to the pain with compassion. And in that stillness, for a moment, I have hope we will all be strong enough for each other.
Field Notes: Very cool flight! Crosses over Sylvan before ending at Chance. So much wildlife and greenery – beautiful!
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
