Trip #469 Attica Street to Herndon Street, Elliott, Pittsburgh took place on July 19, 2020, and was published on July 29, 2020.
Now is the season for fresh fruits: velvety peaches, melt in your mouth melons, and sweet-tart berries that stain your fingers blue, purple, and red. We’re able to enjoy a summer harvest because of work performed months before, so the next time you’re biting into that succulent plum, take a moment to look back and reflect upon what fruits your labor has borne. Despite the pandemic, we’re still working, creating, thinking, growing, and making. The method and manner may differ from last year, but these practices are still a part of our everyday lives. What are you enjoying today that was just a seed six months ago? Take pride in your accomplishments, but don’t delay in putting your boots back on – there’s work to be done now to prepare for the cold season ahead.
Field Notes: Bob Regan’s book indicated there would be railroad ties and asphalt. BUT, that was 20 years ago and the cement on this sidewalk looks like it was done in the last 10 years. The grade on the street is pretty gradual so the lack of seven steps likely isn’t missed any.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
