Trip #470 Valonia Street, Elliott, Pittsburgh took place on July 19, 2020, and was published on July 31, 2020.
When we perform an act of kindness, two benefits are created: one for the recipient of our actions and another for ourselves. Showing kindness doesn’t have to be a grand, lavish (or expensive) gesture, it can be as simple as opening a door for someone who has their hands full, offering a heartfelt thank you to the cashier at the grocery store, or helping to clear your neighbor’s sidewalk when snow, leaves, or litter appears. There aren’t many opportunities where you can instantly double an investment, but kind acts are one of them. Imagine how much happier and secure we’d feel if everyone followed this simple strategy.
Field Notes: This is a great flight! The bottom portion is closed but the top still leads to two orphan houses – one occupied and the other that appears to be under repair (?). Saw an old box for salt/sand, an older metal trash can, and an older still water pump! Cool little spot.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
